Gorilla Trekking Permit Uganda Rwanda & Congo prices in 2026 are $800, $1500 and $400 per person. The Gorilla Trekking Permit Uganda Rwanda & Congo are obtained from valid Wildlife Authorities which issue these permits to allow travelers a chance to trek and watch the rare species of Gorillas in their natural forest habitat. 

Gorilla trekking permit is a valid license offered by Wildlife Authority of a country like Uganda Wildlife Authority in Uganda, Rwanda Development Board in Rwanda. The Trekking Permit offers you a chance to trek the Mountain and Eastern Lowland Gorillas in their natural forest vegetation habitat.

Without this document, travelers cannot watch the rare species of Gorillas and these are obtained from the organizations authorized. Each Gorilla Trekking Permit offered gives you a chance to trek a habituated Gorilla Family for a period of 3 to 5 hours depending where the Gorillas are located and when you meet them only an hour is allowed in their presence taking photos with a camera that has no flash.

The Gorilla Trekking Permits in Uganda cost US $800, US $1500 in Rwanda, US $400 in DR Congo. The cost is charged per person interested in trekking and watching the Mountain Gorillas and Eastern Lowland Gorillas.

Other than Gorilla Trekking, Travelers can choose to enjoy the Gorilla Habituation experience which costs US $1500 per person interested. The experience takes place at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park’s Rushaga Sector which is one of the four sectors in the Park (Buhoma Sector, Ruhija Sector, Nkuringo Sector).

How to Book a Gorilla Trekking Permit in Uganda, Rwanda

Gorilla Trekking Permits can be booked through contacting an authentic Tour Operator Agency to obtain these on your behalf from the Uganda Wildlife Authority if you are interested in trekking and watching the rare species of Mountain Gorillas at Bwindi Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

The Booking procedure includes contacting the tour operators through email then inform them about your interested in trekking the Gorillas. They shall then go to Uganda Wildlife Authority and book then obtain your valid trekking permit. In the DR Congo, these are booked and obtained at the Virunga National Park authorities (DRC).

If the Trekking Permits are available with complete booking and payment, the Wildlife Authority will provide a form then after payment, your trekking permit will be reserved. The Payments are usually made in US Dollars or any currency.

We advise you book these earlier in 3 to 4 months in advance because the trekking permits are limited and in high demand during the dry peak seasons.

Availability, Seasonality & Restrictions

The number of the Gorilla Trekking Permits are limited to a small number of visitors i.e 8 per group which are allowed to trek the rare species of Mountain Gorillas in their natural forest habitat. You are allowed to to trek each habituated gorilla group per day.

The Trekking Permit sale peak seasons are in the months of June to September and December to February. Even during the low/ rainy seasons, the permits can still be bought and this happens in the months of March–May, October–November. Once you secure a Gorilla Trekking permit, it’s for a particular date and gorilla family.
